I photographed Shaun & Sally’s wedding at Manor Gatehouse, in Dartford, and reception at Barnhurst Golf Course. Manor Gatehouse is a very old building with a lot of character, isn’t the largest of venue’s I’ve worked in, and one of their requests was a full shot of the bridal party, which was 17 people strong. As you can see below, the Manor Gatehouse has a stunning, well maintained garden to work with so I knew this would be the best option for fitting everyone in. During my routine scouting of the location with the couple I took a few reference photos and knew there was a perfectly positioned bench to climb and get a group shot from. These sort of details are exactly why I like to visit the locations beforehand with my clients.
The reception was held at Barnhurst Golf Course, a short drive away. I whisked the happy couple off to a nearby open area with some strikingly large trees as my backdrop. Sally was rather shy, so whilst directing them both to head towards the trees I captured a fun moment of Shaun dancing with his new wife. These intimate couple shots are always great fun to work on, and with the help of a
voice directed light stand assistant I was able to start using my flash to get some nice soft subtle lighting by the trees and really showing off the new couple.
The after party was great and I enjoyed capturing portraits of the other guests, my particular favorite is a sequence from the Best Mans speech, which pulled out the happiest smiles and heartiest laughs from Shaun that I think I’ve ever captured at a wedding.
