When not taking pictures, my day job is working as a Graphic Designer at Remedy Creative in Tunbridge Wells. Since joining the team I’ve taken new photos for our website and then following that I was asked to take new staff portraits of the team. There’s a good challenge in trying to take a serious portrait of someone at work, so this was a pretty fun session going through the team one at a time and seeing their personality come to life. The trick in directing these sort of shoots in a professional environment is to keep it as informal as possible, if someone isn’t relaxed and comfortable, it’s going to show.
For the setup, there’s plenty of space to play with in our meeting room, so instead of keeping it portable, I decided to bring in my studio lights and 3mx3m backdrop (see the end of the post for some behind the scenes photos). It was a half day shoot and I needed a lot of juice for the lights, so this was a preferable option compared to my portable speedlights and a truckload of batteries. Even though everyone was shot against white, I used some nice soft lighting to make everyone ‘pop’ still and keep a bit of depth. Of course Remedy also wanted a portrait of me too, so Jonathan, our Creative Director stepped in to take mine (check out the timelapse gif at the end).
Here are the final shots that were selected, all retouched and ready for a fresh look in the new year!
Out of my shortlist of all the staff portraits, everyone picked their favorite. But even still, there were a few gems that didn’t make the cut and get selected, but I still had to include as I really like them:
When it comes to photographing staff and employees, the majority of companies will have an assorted cross section of photos of their team clearly taken by different people at different times. I offer company profile photography to get a consistent look that can be replicated as your team grows or changes. I can provide portraits that looks modern, professional, fresh and most of all, natural.
I’m very flexible and can work in any location, if you’re interested in booking some new portraits please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
