When you have young children it’s all too easy to find yourself always behind the camera and never in any of the photos. With her son Harrison approaching 9 months old this was the position Charlie was finding herself in. She and her husband Steve decided it was high time they hired a photographer to capture some photos of the three of them together and I was excited to help them to make sure they’d be photos they’d really treasure.
I often encourage clients to pick a shoot location that has special meaning to them, somewhere that you will always associate with fond memories. As they’d previously had their engagement photos taken in the beautiful setting of Knole Park in Sevenoaks this seemed like an obvious choice for Charlie and Steve’s new family photos. It’s not a location that I had visited before but after seeing pictures of its wide open landscapes and rolling hills I was excited to shoot there. Despite the entrance being tucked away down some tiny streets in the middle of Sevenoaks, the scale of this park once you reach it seems vast, with no end of great spots to capture beautiful images. With majestic deer running around in the background, what’s not to love?
Having been lulled to sleep by the car journey, Harrison provided us with a brief window to try and capture a nice coupley shot of Steve and Charlie to begin the shoot. However once he was awake again all the attention was his as he enjoyed interacting with the camera and playing with his Dad. It was a pleasure to observe and capture this easy going family enjoying time together amidst the natural beauty of their surroundings.
As with all photoshoots, the best photos come right at the end when everyone has warmed up and got into the flow of it. The last sequence of shots took place on a small hill that had caught my eye as we were walking the grounds. Lying down in the long grass with my telephoto zoom gave me a lovely depth of field to play with and I’m really pleased with how the shots turned out, especially the black and white ones. On presenting them with their slideshow, Charlie and Steve seemed over the moon with the results:
“Chris Hogben is an amazing photographer and I’m so pleased he answered our search! Chris understood exactly what we were looking for in our photos and was great fun to work with. He has given us some fantastic photographs and I honestly nearly cried when he presented them to us. I couldn’t be happier. Thank you Chris so much for the wonderful photographs.”
I have a big love for this park just after one shoot and I can’t wait to get back out there again to photograph more. If you’d like to have some photos of your own taken like these, simply get in touch to book in a session. I have several photoshoot packages to suit different budgets and will happily discuss your requirements.
